Compare loan prepayment choices locally, including interest saved, tenure saved, lower EMI, cash left, emergency runway, rate-hike stress, and prepay-now versus prepay-later timing.
The Loan Prepayment Reality Checker compares interest saving with cash left after prepayment. It is a manual, local-first calculator for preparing lender questions without uploading loan statements.

FAQ
Questions before you start
Is this a financial advice tool?
No. It is an educational estimate that helps users prepare questions before checking actual prepayment rules with the lender.
Why include a cash buffer?
A prepayment can save interest while still leaving too little emergency cash. The buffer view helps compare both sides of that tradeoff.
Do I need to upload a loan statement?
No. Enter the current balance, rate, EMI, tenure, and cash figures manually. This avoids another PDF parser workflow.
Why a normal prepayment calculator is not enough
Most loan prepayment calculators answer one narrow question: how much interest is saved if a borrower prepays a lump sum. That number is useful, but it does not answer the harder household question. After the prepayment, is there still enough cash left for emergencies, school fees, medical expenses, job loss, business delay, moving costs, or other commitments?
The Loan Prepayment Reality Checker is built around that practical tradeoff. It compares the usual same-EMI and lower-EMI choices, but it also shows cash left after the prepayment, essential-expense runway, a buffer-safe prepayment amount, rate-hike stress, and the effect of waiting a few months before prepaying.
- Compare same-EMI prepayment versus lower-EMI prepayment
- See cash left after prepayment and fee
- Check emergency runway in months of essential expenses
- Limit prepayment to surplus cash after a chosen buffer
- Estimate rate-hike pressure for floating-rate loans
- Compare prepay now with prepay after a few months
What numbers you need
The tool is intentionally manual. It does not ask for a bank login, loan account access, loan statement upload, or PDF parser. A user can enter the current outstanding balance, annual interest rate, remaining tenure, current EMI, possible prepayment amount, fees or charges, available cash, essential monthly expenses, and the number of months of cash buffer they want to keep.
Manual entry keeps the tool simple and private. It also avoids the maintenance problem of supporting hundreds of loan statement formats across banks, countries, lenders, and loan types.
- Outstanding loan balance
- Annual interest rate
- Remaining tenure
- Current EMI or estimated EMI
- Possible lump-sum prepayment
- Prepayment fee or charges
- Available cash and essential monthly expenses
- Target cash-buffer months
How to read the scenarios
The same-EMI scenario estimates what happens if the user prepays and keeps paying roughly the same EMI. In many loans this closes the loan earlier and saves more interest, but the monthly cash-flow burden remains similar. The lower-EMI scenario estimates what happens if the prepayment lowers the monthly EMI while the tenure remains similar.
The buffer-safe scenario asks a different question: how much can be prepaid without dropping below the selected cash reserve? A user with a high interest-saving number may still decide to keep more cash if the planned prepayment leaves only one or two months of expenses.
- Same EMI usually focuses on faster closure
- Lower EMI usually focuses on monthly relief
- Buffer-safe limits prepayment to surplus cash
- Monthly top-up keeps cash today and adds extra principal each month
- Prepay later estimates timing cost when waiting
Safe-use notes
This page is an educational calculator and organization tool. It is not financial, tax, legal, investment, credit, or lending advice. It cannot know a lender's actual amortization schedule, reset cycle, penalty policy, prepayment rules, tax treatment, insurance attachment, or document conditions.
Do not enter loan account passwords, OTPs, PINs, CVV values, recovery phrases, full identity numbers, or full account numbers. The tool only needs numbers such as balance, EMI, rate, fees, and cash buffer.
